Confronting a cultural pessimism fueled by current social and political trends, the exhibition “finale” intends to preserve free art as we know it for eternity. For this doomed-to fail attempt, the visual artist Elisabeth Kraus and the sound art duo Hauptmeier | Recker are subjecting their previous work to various processes of reproduction, archiving and preservation. In an audio-visual room installation, the three artists stage a museum of their own design, a demented archive, a time capsule, a state between packaged archive material and living culture. Completing the process of creation – organising, compressing and preserving. Without context, but securely packaged for eternity, the dreams of the archive are fading.
