Another Shore was originally composed as part of the work Crossing the Sea for 3D video mapping (by Lukas Löffler) and live electronics (by Hauptmeier/Recker). The musical part of this piece has since become an independent work lasting 25 minutes. For the DEGEM, an edited and shortened version has been made from a recording of the live performance. Divided into several sections, the piece deals with a refugee’s flight by boat across the Mediterranean Sea. Different stages and feelings during the crossing are reflected musically. The structure of the music is based on the original storyboard by Lukas Löffler, which he developed together with refugees from Afghanistan and Syria.
